3d printers can create three-dimensional objects from a variety of materials. The quantity of materials increases additionally visibly. Below is an overview of the most used materials for 3d printing.
Nylon
Nylon is a material that can be used to print a multitude of three-dimensional objects. From flexible to hard, from transparent to colorful: with nylon applications are endless. These include packaging, jewelry, models, modeling, clothing and medical applications.
As a stable plastic, nylon has an excellent surface quality, as well as mechanical and chemical advantages over other materials. Because of this, end products are functional, but they can also be slightly porous and slightly different from the original CAD construction drawing. This material usually used by 3D printer less than 1000 dollars.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is a material that is widely usable in the field of 3d printing. For example, it is often used for items such as packaging, showcases, profiles, glazing, test dies, greenhouse roofs, clamping molds and double-walled partitions. Polycarbonate is one of the more stable plastics and is up to 250 times stronger than glass. The material is ideally suited for machining such as milling, drilling, bending and sawing.
As a result, finished products correspond very well to the original CAD construction drawing, but they can be slightly porous and therefore not waterproof.
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
ABS is a stable plastic that is produced from petroleum. The material has a relatively high melting point but is very sturdy, has high durability and is dishwashable. ABS is therefore used for various products such as household appliances, children's toys, musical instruments, modeling, tables, golf clubs, chairs, housings, LEGO blocks, vases, and pottery. ABS is available in a multitude of colors and is often incorporated into a 3d object using stereolithography. In most cases, the end product requires little after-treatment and is characterized by high quality.
Polylactic Acid (PLA)
PLA is a standard material that comes from natural raw materials such as sugar and corn. As a biodegradable plastic PLA is very environmentally friendly compared to other materials. This is not the only reason that the content is popular with consumers, because also the article does not stink to burnt plastic while printing. Many people describe the print air of PLA as slightly sweet. PLA can be printed at relatively low temperatures, but is nevertheless quite sturdy and does not warp. This makes PLA ideally suited for lightweight applications such as jewelry, decorative prints, modeling and toys with lots of details.
Wood
Wood is a material that is used more and more for 3d printing. Not so strange, because wood is durable, does not pull quickly crooked and is excellent to edit. This way it is fine to sand and paint, and the finished product can still be sawn. Wood is available in different colors and is often used to manufacture household products such as cutlery, jewelry, toys and handles with a 3d printer. Wood should preferably be kept in an open container so that moisture can come in and the product does not dry out and becomes more fragile.
Hips
HIPS is a material that is still used relatively briefly for 3d printing but is quickly gaining popularity. HIPS is available in various colors and is known as ABS for its excellent stiffness and strength. The finished product is of high quality and is also well suited for editing, for example by painting or sanding. Also, the material is very heat resistant and hygienic, which often uses things like cutlery and food packaging. HIPS is soluble in limo No and is therefore frequently used as a supporting material when printing 3d objects with ABS.
Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA)
After printing, the 3d object only needs to be laid in water or in an aqueous solvent. This will solve the PVA support structure that makes the finished product ready for use.
