SUGABABE Amelle Berrabah’s attempts to dodge London’s big freeze and have a crafty cigarette ended with her friend being arrested for drink-driving last night.
The singer and Russian designer friend Nicole Sconciaforni stepped out for a nicotine break while partying at Mayfair nightclub Mahiki.
But the pair soon retreated to the refuge of 28-year-old Sconciaforni’s Porsche parked nearby to keep warm.
The police stepped in when the car was spotted being driven in reverse along Dover Street and Sconciaforni was breath tested and arrested.
Dismayed Berrabah sat in the police car comforting her friend. She then returned to the club when Nicole was taken away by police.
The star then partied for another hour and a half before being picked up by her driver.
A Met police spokesperson confirmed today that a 28-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance on Dover Street at midnight, and remained in police custody.
Berrabah, 24, was carrying a Mai Tai cocktail as she exited the nightclub – a favourite with the young royals – to have a smoke. Dressed in a checked pink strapless dress and leggings, the Sugababe singer looked freezing as she was photographed outside.
Last month she revealed that she was reluctant to join the group because she expected to be bullied by Heidi Range and Keisha Buchanan.
The singer was recruited after Mutya Buena – on screen on Celebrity Big Brother – quit in December 2005.
Berrabah has admitted tabloid reports of tension in the band played on her mind. She told Star magazine "I was scared when I joined. I’d heard about the infighting that supposedly went on and I believed it."
