New jungle monarch to be crowned

26_11_20080849Actor George Takei will become the oldest ever winner of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! if the public votes him king of the jungle today.

The 71-year-old Star Trek and Heroes star became one of the three finalists in the show after former Dollar singer David Van Day was voted off yesterday.

Controversial Van Day denied allegations made by glamour model Nicola McLean that he had a game plan.

Talking to presenters Ant and Dec after his eviction, he said: "I can't make it up. But Nicola gave me lots of currency. She made it really easy for me."

A latecomer to the show, he said he was "disappointed" to leave after spending 16 days in the jungle.

But he added: "It's been a real rollercoaster for me. I think my work there was finished. They don't need me interfering and messing with their minds."

He backed Joe Swash as winner of the show, despite the former EastEnders actor describing him as "conniving...like a snake in the grass".

Van Day has also been described by his fellow contestants as "out for himself" and "lazy".

The surviving camp mates had earlier been reminiscing as they neared the end of their jungle adventure.

For Van Day, the show's worst point was when he found himself trapped in a jungle jail.

"It was an absolute hell hole, I've never been in anything like this in my life," he said.

"Terrifying start to my time here and I think it sent me over the edge for a bit. But the day I won the bed on the bus was a great Van Day."

Tennis champion Martina Navratilova, the only female finalist, said she had found the experience gruelling, crying "at the drop of a hat".

She said: "It's a long schlep through here. For three weeks we have to keep control of everything but you have to put everything in perspective and not get too overwrought.

"You have extremes of emotions here because everyone's on edge."

All four took part in the latest Bushtucker Trial - the Celebrity Cyclone.

They successfully battled water cannons and gale force winds to fix foam stars into position, winning a meal each.

Navratilova and Van Day also tackled the Celebrity Chest challenge, which saw Navratilova firing tennis balls from a giant tea pot to hit a target, drenching Van Day in the process.

Returning to the camp with the chest, the four camp mates answered trivia questions about each other, such as how Swash once described Navratilova's bottom.

They opted for "firm" but the correct answer was "peachy" and the celebrities found they had failed to open the chest for the first time this series.

Swash has also been busy with a video camera, capturing the action - or lack of it - at the camp.

Touring the dunny, he said: "That's where I couldn't do a poo for nearly 13 days."

The two-hour finale show kicks off on ITV1 at 8.30pm tonight.
