Russell Brand turns up to the wrong premiere
WHEN there’s a world full of red carpets, one just isn’t enough for Russell Brand.
Arriving uncharacteristically early to a premiere in Leicester Square last night, the flamboyant funnyman swaggered in for The Times BFI London Film Festival screening of The Secret Life of Bees.
The only problem was Russ had meant to make his way to a screening of W – the political drama that had already kicked off at a completely different cinema.
Given the Bees’ girlie vibe, onlookers questioned his appearance at the “chick flick” screening – disregarding his obvious feminine attributes.
When his foolish faux pas was pointed out, a shocked Russell gasped: “A chick flick? I’m here to see George Bush!”
But the cheeky comic laughed off his error, telling fans: “That’s what you get for wearing sunglasses at night! You can’t see a thing.”
And with a flick of an oversized sleeve, Russell, 33, sank back into his car, yelling: “Drive on!” to his chauffeur as they rolled 20m across Leicester Square to join Dubya’s guests. Well, we wouldn’t expect such a fabulous diva to walk now, would we?
Skipping along another carpet, Russ chatted to fans and blew air kisses to the crowd before sauntering inside, having missed the start of the film and no doubt disturbing viewers.
An insider at the Festival groaned: “There are over 150 film screenings this month at a number of different venues, and Russell is the only person to have turned up at the wrong one.”
Ah well. One bad movie is much like another.
