Oscar-winning star Paul Newman has told his family he wants to die at home after it was reported the 83-year old has been given only weeks to live.
He has returned home to his wife Joanne Woodward after finishing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
He was seen looking frail and thin being pushed in a wheelchair from a New York hospital.
The former actor and director who has won numerous awards throughout his career “did not want to die in hospital” according to a close family friend.
The source said: “Joanne and his daughters are beside themselves with grief.”
The friend, who has been helping to organise Newmans’ affairs, added the movie idol - who co-owns a motor racing team - had caused tension among his children by a decision to give away his prized Ferrari to a life-long friend.
“The sudden move angered his children. It’s especially hard for them to come to grips with what is going on,” said the source.
Newman, who has three daughters, was nominated for ten Oscars, and retired from acting in 2006 after starring in scores of films including The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke and The Color of Money.
Quite nicely written actually, i like it. :)
