The Duchess of York hit back today at "rude" critics of her teenage daughter
Princess Beatrice.
Some commentators made cutting remarks about 19-year-old Beatrice's curvy figure after she was pictured wearing a bikini on a Caribbean holiday last month.
Her mother Sarah Ferguson insisted the Princess was a "healthy size 10" and pleaded for the media to focus on her academic success and charity work.
Speaking at a press screening of a new ITV1 documentary in which she appears, the Duchess said there had been some "fantastically good" articles about Beatrice and her other daughter, Eugenie.
She accepted that freedom of the press meant people could write what they liked about her and her children but said some had gone too far.
The Duchess, who has battled with her own weight, self-deprecatingly referred to herself as "fat frumpy Fergie".
"Beatrice is a healthy size 10, she's a fabulous girl, she has a completely good heart," she said.
"And she has suffered with special needs at school from the age of seven with dyslexia.
"So much so that she has combated it in order to get a grade A* in history to go and read history at Goldsmiths.
"Let's focus on that. She also supports me with my charity work.
"Could we not focus on the fact that she's a healthy size 10?"
Beatrice is currently on a gap year before starting a degree at Goldsmiths College in London in the autumn.
She is spending most of this month working as a personal shopper at Selfridges department store in Oxford Street in the capital.
The Princess had spoken for the first time of her "wonderful" boyfriend Dave Clark, with whom she was photographed in the Caribbean.
She told Hello! magazine: "I've been away so much this year he got quite upset and said to me, 'Right, that's it, it's our time now', and took me off to St Barts."
Beatrice also said she did not know any photographers were there when she was on holiday.
Duchess In Hull will be broadcast on ITV1 in two parts on May 19 and 20.

That girl is hot in a bikini, which is what her mom should say, not that she has a great personality. It's hurtful to the ego in the near term.
