Solar power is making Lily Allen Smile
We love green celebs! And Lily Allen leads the way, by recording her album at a solar powered studio!
The 22-year-old LDN singer has recorded tracks at a solar powered studio in Hackney.
Allen, who celebrates her 23rd birthday on Friday, made the recording at groundbreaking east London studio The Premises in February.
Now the pop star and other artists who have worked at the studio have given their backing to a campaign to boost renewable energy in Britain.
Allen said: "Having worked at The Premises solar powered recording studio I have experienced how clean and green renewable energy is.
“I fully support giving people a renewable energy reward for the power they generate. It’s good to be green!”
She has joined campaigners from Friends of the Earth (FOE) and the Renewable Energy Association to urge MPs to give people financial incentives for generating their own power by installing devices such as solar panels and wind turbines.
Other artists to have used The Premises including Hot Chip, Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, Bloc Party, Alphabeat and the Klaxons, have joined the singer in emailing MPs asking them to strengthen the Energy Bill on which they will vote tomorrow (Wed).
The studio's managing director Julia Craik said: “However much they might wish to be green, for many businesses it is simply not financially viable to install renewable energy.
“If the UK followed the example of Germany and introduced a premium feed-in tariff the initial costs of installing renewable technologies such as our solar panels will be re-couped in a much shorter time, and after that turn a profit. This would be a huge incentive!"
FOE's energy campaigner Dave Timms said: “We must make it cheaper and easier for people to go green.”
