The heiress broke down in tears after learning that she is banned from the Oscars.

The socialite splashed out thousands of pounds on a dress for the glittering awards ceremony on Sunday, only to be told that she was blacklisted.

Hilton, 27, has tried to change her reputation from party girl to serious actress by appearing in a number of movies.

But her latest movie - The Hottie and The Nottie - grossed just £4,500 at the US box office in its opening weekend.

According to US reports, a friend said: "She cried when she was banned from the Oscars. She's desperate to be taken seriously as an actress and wanted to network with film executives."
