Her boyfriend Prince William may have missed the big
occasion, but it didn’t wipe the smile from Kate Middleton’s face last night. TheBuzz saw that the royal girlfriend had plenty of male companions to dance with after we snuck in to Kate’s 26th birthday party at Kitts nightclub.
After drinks at her Chelsea home with 30 or so of her closest friends, Kate and caterer sister Pippa headed out to meet their parents at double Michelin-starred restaurant Tom Aikens. After dinner she showed no sign of the flu which she had been complaining about at the party earlier to head to the trendy Sloane Square club, owned by 20-somethings about town Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling, which last year hosted Noel Gallagher’s birthday party and stars such as Lily Allen and Denise van Outen.
Inside the champagne and cocktails flowed as Kate spent most of her time on the dancefloor, dancing to as diverse artists as Outkast and ABBA, with a string of eligible men lining up for a dance with the birthday girl.
But the man she spent most of the evening swirling around the dancefloor with was close pal of Will’s Tom van Straubenzee. It seemed that Tom, an accomplished, if slightly old-fashioned dancer, had been designated as her personal guard for the evening.
But after saying her goodbyes on the dancefloor, the perhaps surprisingly sober Kate did her make-up in the ladies' and headed outside to face the flash bulbs at 2.30am. As she jumped into a waiting car taking her back for a nightcap at her place with her sister, she showed her independent spirit as she cruised home without any protection officers.
It seems that Kate Middleton was not only showered with gifts from friends and family, also fans wanted to give her a present. London musician Slinky from the band the More Assured presented Kate with a £3,000 painting by artist, kung-fu expert and DJ Master Simon Wong. Alright for some. We've found his website, so if you want a painting like Kate's visit www.ydgallery.co.uk
